Big family sessions always make me happy because it's a group of people who choose to make time to be together despite everyone having their own busy schedules. That's what family is in my opinion. I especially love that this family have a mom and dad who value the importance of getting together as a family, even though they are no longer married to each other. This isn't the first time I've had a family session like this, but every time I am so impressed and grateful to people who choose to do these shoots together. To me, family is family, no matter what you family looks like. For sessions like these, we do a variety of posing groups. Some with both parents for the kids, and some with the individual parents as well. As a kid who has experience the death of a parent and having a step-dad an step-family, I think I have a pretty good grasp on what every person in the family is looking for to hang on their walls. When I shoot any session, that literally goes through my head. What is this family going to want to display on their wall? What kind of pictures do they want to be able to give to grandparents? What pictures do they want of their sibling group? Sisters are always really close and like to display pictures, so make sure to get more of the sisters together.... etc.... I truly have constant thoughts throughout a session based on the family dynamics and what is evident between them. This family, despite an obvious past, clearly loves each other and holds value for that love. Such a great session!
