Kaitlyn || How to Make the Most of 10 Minute Shoots || Logan, Utah Senior Portrait Photographer

When I was out in Omaha, I got to do family pictures for this adorable girl. Kaitlyn is a senior this year though, so we tacked on a little senior mini session to the end of the family pictures and were able to get some really fun shots in Downtown Benson at all these amazing graffiti walls. Kaitlyn specifically requested some cool graffiti, and I think we totally got that for her! I can't believe I never shot downtown Benson when I lived in Omaha, especially because it's like 5 minutes from where we lived. It was so unique and cool! I'm glad we got to do these!!We literally shot for about 10 minutes to get all of these amazing pictures of Kaitlyn. I want to share some of the ways that we're able to do such a fast session, but get a great variety. These can apply to kids, families, seniors, couples.  Anything! When you work with a confident and experienced photographer, your session doesn't need to be two hours! Here we go....First, bring outfits that work well for quick changes. A lot of sessions require that you change in your car, so bringing things that are easy to change in to will definitely help maximize your time!Second, pick a location that has a lot of variety of backdrops in the same area. For Katilyn's session, everything you see was within about 200 feet walking distance. That way, it appears that you went to multiple places and gives a great variety for the shoot.Third, follow a flow. This is more for the photographer, but it also helps for the client to kind of feel the pattern that's being created.  When the client understands the flow, the shooting naturally happens faster. I usually start out with a pose looking at the camera. Then I'll do a fun hair flip or looking away from the camera. Next, I'll have the client do some walking towards the camera while playing with hair and looking side to side. Sometimes I'll add a kneeling shot or twirling shot. When you work with a flow, you can do all of those shots in just a couple of minutes, but have a huge variety. Changing where you are standing also helps with variety!Fourth, have a plan in your mind before you go in! For this session, I scouted the locations in my car before we even started the session.  I knew where I wanted to go, so I was able to suggest which outfits Kaitlyn should wear in the order that would work for making a loop of our locations.Fifth, have fun! Especially with seniors!! Senior teens are soooo good at posing these days.  They know what type of smiles and serious faces they like because most of them have taken a lot of pictures with friends and selfies for snapchat. Allowing them to feel free and comfortable helps to create pictures that look natural and confident. I ALWAYS think about getting pictures that grandparents will like, parents will like, and the senior will like. That's usually three different styles, but with a plan in mind, you can get them all!I want to note that almost ALL of my senior guy sessions are 15 minute sessions.  I get so many calls from moms of boys who have sons who are REALLY hesitant about getting their pictures taken.  We do the smaller session because we still get a great variety, but it's easier to help the client feel at ease when they know they won't be in front of the camera for an extended period of time!Logan Utah Photographer_6349.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6350.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6351.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6354.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6357.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6358.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6353.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6359.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6352.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6361.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6355.jpgLogan Utah Photographer_6356.jpg
