MomTog Workshop || Logan, Utah Photography Workshop
Funny story - a couple weeks ago I went to our local Children's Entrepreneur Market. My photographer friend, Kylee, had a booth set up with her two kids. Her kids were being total bosses and killing it at the market. I asked Kylee if she wanted me to take her pictures and she promptly handed me her Canon camera.... which I have no idea how to use. I've always shot Nikon. Literally guys, I took the blurriest pictures ever before retreating away in embarrassment to my stroller and retrieving my Nikon camera. I took a few pictures and sent them to Kylee later. But I learned a valuable lesson that day - using a DSLR camera is no joke, even though I've been using one for 12+ years!!Fast forward a couple days and I headed to Hyrum Dam with my kids. We went at sunset, so this wasn't going to be a big beach day. I decided to bring along my "big camera," something I rarely do, but should do more of. And I'm so glad I did. As a photographer, it's easy to think of taking pictures, even of my own kids, as WORK. But this was the first night in a long while that I really enjoyed the moment of being a MomTog and capturing this fun family evening of my kids.The boys were having complete fun playing with driftwood. I loved watching them because it's something I did often as a kid when we would walk down the street to the beach at Lake Erie. Holland was enjoying throwing rocks in the water - a favorite pastime of ALL my kids. And of course, her blankie had to make an appearance in the water too. Unfortunately it was the casualty of the night from the burrs on the sand, but don't worry, we have like 19 others.Looking at these pictures when I was done editing doing these quick edits on them in Lightroom made my mama heart happy. And then it hit me - other moms don't get this. This is a product of my hard work and learning and growing as a photographer over the last decade. BUT, there are simple things that I can teach other mamas so they too can have treasures of fun, quality, family photos.I have been toying with the idea of offering workshops. But here's the thing. I don't want to teach other photographers about taking pictures or how I run my business because I'm just not passionate about that. But I AM passionate about other mamas being able to feel the joy I feel when I create something beautiful that focuses on people I love. So that's when the MomTog Workshop idea was born.I will be offering a workshop later this fall, but I want to know what mamas want to learn before I create my plan.
