Kolei // Logan, Utah Birth and Adoption Story
Every time I walk away from shooting a birth story, I am amazed at the miracle that life truly is. But this time was different. This time, I thought about the miracle of baby Kolei, but also about what a warrior her beautiful birth mom is. And I truly mean warrior - I cannot think of a better word to describe such an amazing woman! When I initially walked in the room, I asked if she had gotten an epidural because she was sitting there so calm. But she hadn't! I was shocked then, and even more shocked when she ended up not getting one at all. After Kolei was born, it was so sweet and tender to watch her birth mom hold her, knowing that she would soon allow another woman to hold her as her own. Cecy (the adoptive mom), was so supportive and amazing during the labor and delivery. And after Kolei was born, Cecy was beautiful to watch. The love she had for the woman who just gave birth to her daughter was so deep - something I'm sure I will never understand unless my plans for adoption one day happen. Watching Cecy hold her daughter for the first time was truly moving. And then watching the new family of 4 be together was nothing short of pure joy. This experience allowed me to see and up close story of adoption. I've always been fascinated by it - there is nothing I can think of that is more selfless than placing your baby in another family's arms. This was truly a heavenly experience in an earthly environment. There is no doubt in my mind that there were angels all around this hospital room assisting in this painful and beautiful process. It was an experience I'll never forget.
