{Ben + Lindsay} Omaha Family Photographer
Lindsay was gifted this session from her mom as a graduation present. After Lindsay's cat passed, her mom decided she wanted to make sure that Ben and Lindsay had pictures with their precious pup. And it was great for Lindsay to have pictures of her little family so she can always remember what her family looked like when she finished school.
I love the idea of taking pictures of life events. We focus so much on weddings, births, and birthdays. Senior pictures get thrown in there and family pictures usually happen every year or two so the Christmas card is updated. But there's more we can celebrate in life! I've been thinking a lot lately about my husband's upcoming graduation. He'll be graduating with a Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from Creighton. And I thought about taking his pictures. Not our family pictures - but pictures of just him. I know he won't let me, but I wish he would! This is such a huge achievement in his life. And I would love to look back and see portraits of just him during this big life adjustment he's about to make from student to professional.
We live in the day of the "selfie." I have to admit, I'm not a "selfie" taker, and I do have some opinions on them. But I think there is a huge difference between a selfie picture and having professional portraits taken. I know sometimes as adults it's hard to step in front of a camera alone, but maybe we should do it a little more often. How I would love and cherish portraits of just my dad if I had them. Even in blogging this, I'm realizing that it's important not only to capture who we are as a family, but to try and be comfortable with capturing who we are as individuals within that family, too.
